Altitude sequence of stand of old growth. Excellent topographic protection. Slender tree ferns. High Timber Values.
Much of this site has been logged out. However two of the southern catchments are still in good condition. Extensive proposed logging threatens the South West lower catchment, with 3 logging coupes and a new logging road planned. High proportion of old growth in an informal Special Protection Zone. Another 100 ha added to Special Protection Zone during 1997 East Gippsland Regional Forest Agreement to save old growth forest.

The Rainforest EVC (Ecological Vegetation Class) and RSOS boundaries have been overlayed onto Google Earth imagery to produce images that give a three dimensional perspective of the landscape where rainforest communities exist in East Gippsland. (Note: Rainforest EVC colour code is not consistent for all images.)
Image description: Extensive stands of both Cool Temperate rainforest to the north (green) and Warm Temperate rainforest (yellow). Pink areas show extensive recent clearfell logging.
